The first track on this album is the laid-back relick of Harry A. Mudie's 'Drifter'-riddim from Dennis Walks' 1969 scorcher, with Jah T's guitar contributing the classic melody-line in "Recording Connection" before Horace Andy's seminal "Skylarking" gets the Lloyd 'Bullwackie' Barnes dub treatment. The album features two full vocals by Joe Auxumite - whose solo album was scheduled for release around the time this album was released, but abandoned when most of the tapes were lost - of which "Troubled Land" is the first song making clear that is truly is a pity the album never (re-)surfaced.
On "Morning Star" it's clear that the latest electronic devices from Japan for soundeffects were heavily used, followed by the rocksteady style picked guitar solo on "Heavy Rock" and the beautiful horn riffs featuring dub-reworking of Leroy Sibbles' 1978 Wackies recording "This World" as the title track of this album "Black World". Joe Auxumite's second strong full vocal "Simple Little Woman" precedes "Tribute To Studio One" and "Shining Star", two excellent dubs focusing on Leroy Sibbles' massive basslines. This wonderful album is closed with the magnificent dub of Delroy Wilson's 1968 Studio One classic "Rain From The Skies" in its "Rain From The Cloud" Wackies dub incarnation. The ongoing series of Wackies rereleases from Basic Channel belongs entirely in every reggae and dub collection. For all Wackies/Basic Channel heads this is a complete must have! Immense.
